TCS, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin creating cheap mobile SATCOM solution
A partnership by TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS,) Northrop Grumman, and Lockheed Martin will be creating and distributing affordable protected satellite communications (P-SATCOM) terminals on behalf of the U.S. Military.
The U.S. military has been looking for lower cost technologies and systems. Its Low Cost Terminal (LCT) solution will provide military personnel in the field with protected and secure satellite communications, whether they are on the move or sedentary.
Earlier this year, TCS and its partners signed a collaborative agreement on military SATCOM equipment. Northrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin will build licensed LCT products that TCS will manufacture, market, and distribute in turn.
Both Northrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin contributed to the Milstar and Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) anti-jam satellites. The two companies possess extensive knowledge and experience in engineering secure military satellite communications systems.
According to the three companies’ joint announcement, they will design a modular LCT solution with plug-and-play interfaces and built-in logistics support. The solution will leverage the existing protected mobile satellite communication systems that TCS offers. It will also allow for easy upgrades to provide SNAP operations in Ku-band and Ka-band frequencies.
